Promotoras de Salud (health promotores) play a key role in advancing the well-being of the communities they live, work, pray and play. The Padres Promotores Program has been serving the South Mountain community since 2014. Aiming to provide health education and support to the community members, our Promotoras work hard at increasing parental capacity to prevent youth drug and alcohol use and abuse (e.g. workshops on the topics of marijuana, underage drinking, vaping, and prescription drug misuse and abuse) providing adults in the community with tools and information about improving parent-child communication (e.g. Active Parenting programs), and raising awareness and understanding about substance abuse, mental health and stigmatization. The Promotoras are trusted members of the South Mountain community, which enables their ability to empower parents, adults and families to reach their fullest potential in a culturally, linguistically appropriate peer-to-peer approach. Promotoras engage the community through outreach, community education, social support and advocacy.
